    Dear Parents / Carers,

Expression of Interest in 15 hour and 30 hour places at Athelney Primary School’s Rockets Nursery

During the Summer Term we will be allocating nursery spaces according to our Nursery Admissions Policy.

We currently have vacancies for three and four year olds born between 01/09/2017 – 31/08/2018 to start nursery in September 2021. We offer 15 and 30 hours places; if you would like to be considered for a place in our nursery please contact the office to put your child’s name on our waiting list or visit the Admissions section on the website. Closing date 31 May 2021.

If you do not have a 30 hour code yet, but think you meet the criteria for a 30 hour place, you can still express your interest. However, please note that any offers made will be subject to our receipt of a valid 30 hour code.

More information about eligibility and details of how to apply can be found at:

  • Red Nose Day

    Wed 17 Mar 2021
The wonderful heads team have been organising Red Nose Day this year. Please wear something that makes you happy this Friday 19th of March and bring in a £1 donation
  • Return to School Letter for March 8th

Wed 03 Mar 2021 Mrs Dummer

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families are well. We are very pleased to be able to welcome all of the children back to school on Monday 8th March 2021. Please note that school attendance from Monday 8th March is compulsory so punctuality counts too! We will return to the school timetable that we used in the Autumn term (please see the attached document).

Your teachers are sending a newsletter out for each class tomorrow telling you everything that you need to know from PE days to what you’ll be learning in every curriculum area. From Monday all children will need to wear their normal school uniform, please let us know on the gate or drop your class teacher an email if you have any issues with this. Please note that your child will need to come into school in their PE kit (plain tracksuit and trainers) on their PE day as we are still not changing onsite.

Face coverings for children is not recommended in primary schools and so we will not be allowing the children to wear these in school as inappropriate use can in fact do more harm than good. Children can wear these on the way to and from school, but they will need to be stored correctly while in school during the day. Parents/carers must wear a mask when dropping off and collecting their child/ren at the gate if they wish to come on to the premises to get their child, if you are medically exempt please ensure that you exercise greater distance from all other families/staff.

Please ensure that you maintain social distancing guidelines when you are dropping off and picking your child/ren from the school gates. To assist you in this, we have bought some fencing panels to queue. These will be used by the school as soon as we receive the panels. Please use these to queue at each gate rather than coming forward to call your child.

As you need to come out of your homes to drop your children at school, please be aware that you can access Lateral Flow Testing at the Green Man building (Bromley Road) and other Lewisham buildings, including the Civic Suite (Catford). Please find the information for this here: https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/coronavirus-covid-19/get-tested-for-covid19/rapid-testing-for- covid19

You may alternatively be able to access twice weekly tests for your household. Information on this is found here: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Despite the fact that the schools are opening to all pupils, please be aware that the national restrictions still apply. Therefore, we must all ensure that we follow the guidelines with regards to COVID-19 symptoms and isolation for a positive test. The most up-to-date information can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Breakfast Club will return to the arrangements from the Autumn term, if you are unsure as to whether you have a space or would like to find out more information please contact the school office.

If you have needed to travel abroad during this time with your child/ren, please follow the national guidelines on your return to the UK and contact the school to discuss the guidelines about your child’s return to school.

Thank you so much for your support, patience and resilience during this time. I cannot wait to see you next week and assure you that WE WILL ALL BE SMILING…under our masks.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs Nathalie Dummer

  • Academic Review Day - Postponed

    Thu 04 Feb 2021
    Dear Parents/Carers

Next Friday 12th February will now no longer be an INSET/Academic Review day.  This means Key Worker & Vulnerable children who are currently attending school should attend as normal and children at home should access online learning and zoom calls as normal on this day.

The Academic Review day will be moved to another day probably in the summer term and more information will follow when we know more about the children's full return to school.  We will give parents and carers as much warning as we are able to do so when rescheduling the INSET.

    Kindest regards

  • Tier 4 Reduced opening

Sun 03 Jan 2021 Mrs Dummer

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, Happy New Year to all of your families and our wider community, I sincerely hope that you’re staying safe and well.

As you will have seen it has now been decided all London Primary Schools will teach remotely for the next two weeks. Athelney’s home learning will commence on Tuesday 5th January. You will receive more exact details on this on Monday afternoon and our class webpages will be updated too.

From Tuesday 5th January school will be open for a small number of pupils whose parents are critical workers and some school identified vulnerable children. But at this point I need to be really clear, that for the next two weeks, this is only for a small number of children whose parents or carers are vital to the fight against COVID-19 or the Brexit agenda as the Government have outlined. Until there is more clarity on staff fitness, lateral flow testing and vaccinations the safest place for you, your children and our staff is to be at home.

As parents and teachers we have been torn by these last minute changes. It would be so much easier for everyone if we opened the doors to all as normal next week BUT we cannot do this as the science and data continues to tell us that it is not safe to do so.

Therefore, I would urge you to think really carefully whether you truly need your child in school over this next two weeks, and if you genuinely qualify. If you are a key worker and have nobody else to support your child then, please, of course, let me know by emailing me on athelneyhead@gmail.com and we will work together to see if we can accommodate your request. The proforma for your application is at the end of this email. All places are subject to us having enough fit and healthy staff on any given day to provide both face to face and remote provision.

So with this in mind please email me on athelneyhead@gmail.com  by 11.30am on Monday 4th January, if you really need your child/children accommodated at school for the next two weeks. Places will be allocated on a highest need basis so priority will be placed on those working in the NHS/care profession with NO other childcare options. This is different to the March lockdown as we are now trying to protect our community from the new strand of Covid-19 which has already reduced our staff by 15% for week 1.

The plan for online provision will be regular webpage updates with photos and challenges added daily, videos linked to areas of learning in each year group via BBC bitesize and Oak Academy and email access to teachers within the year group (Not necessarily your child’s own teacher – as some may be ill, or in school with Critical worker pupils).  Your classteacher(s) will send full details of our remote provision on Monday, ready for home learning from Tuesday.

In the meantime, please try and enjoy the last two days of the break. I will be in touch with everyone again on tomorrow ready for the start of term on Tuesday.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

    Yours sincerely
