This is the Soyuz class page, home of everything you need to know! This page shares key information about homework, PE and trips, as well as a reminder of all set year 6 expectations.
Please visit the class pages to see updates on our display boards and trips as and when they change.
This year in Soyuz the class teacher is Mrs Brannan and our class adults are Ms Gibbs and Ms Walters. On a Thursday the class teacher will be Mrs Hall, however Mrs Brannan will be available on these days. Please come and see any of the class adults at any time if you are unsure of anything or need support.
Our days for PE are as follows:
Swimming is on alternate Tuesdays. The dates are 10th September, 24th September, 8th October, 29th October (due to half term the previous week), 12th November, 26th November, 10th December. For swimming the children need a towel, a swimming hat (more are now available in the office) and a swimming costume. Boys: trunks. Girls: one piece swimming costume.
Gymnastics is every Thursday. For this the children will need a pair of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.
The children are expected to read daily, with them completing 5 entries in their journals across a 7 day period - these are checked every Friday. Children that complete 5 or more entries receive free time on a Friday afternoon.
Spellings - the children have been provided with their spellings for this half term (the documents are also available on the website). They need to learn their spellings weekly; these will be tested on a Friday.
Homework project: the children have been set a homework project for this half term (again this is available to view on the website.) The expectation is for children to have completed 3 of the activities by the 27th September, and another 3 are due by the 25th October.
This term's learning:
In Literacy this term we are looking at the book 'Rose Blanche.' This will be the main focus of our literacy teaching and our writing outcomes will be based on this text.
In Maths the focus this term is number (addition, multiplication, subtraction and division particularly.)
Our Science topic is 'Light' and the children are set to make some exciting periscopes next week - watch this space for photos!
In R.E we are focusing on Hinduism and the history of the religion.
Our main Topic is WW2 and hopefully the children have already come home and shared what they have learnt; there is a definite buzz in the classroom during those lessons!
Our Destination Reader (guided reading) book is Carrie's War which also links to our topic.
Trips this term:
Our main trips are school/home journey which your child will have talked to you about as they are all very excited! Home Journey will be spent with Mrs Brannan going on trips in and around London.
School Journey is to Swanage, and the children will be accompanied by Ms Owen, Ms Redshaw and Mr Potts.
