Welcome to Year 5.

As we enter into Upper Key Stage Two we have the opportunity to deepen our learning and continue the journey to mastering our Reading, Writing and Maths skills.

 

Expectations

PE - We currently have P.E on Monday. Full PE is required to be worn.

 

Homework - Homework tasks will include Literacy, (Grammar and Comprehension) Maths and Handwriting. Children will also have Spellings to learn. The amount will increase over the academic year. The children will be undertaking weekly spelling lessons to support them with strategies to assist them in learning these words. Spelling tests will be every Friday. Homework is due on Tuesday.

 

Reading -  Reading journals will need to be completed daily and twice on a weekend. Your child's reading journal is checked daily. A prompt is placed in their journal to guide them with a suggestion of responses.

Daily reading is necessary for children to develop their vocabulary and become fluent readers who can access texts that are increasingly challenging as we journey through Upper Key Stage 2.

 

 

 

It is not expected that children read at length every night but aim to instill a love of reading into the children that they take into adulthood.

 

Maths-  We have access to Times Tables Rockstars. The children will need to develop quick recall of all times tables up to 12 x 12 if they have not already. They are able to access this programme at home and will be rewarded as their recall improves.
