Athelney’s PTA Welcome Speech
A big warm welcome to all our new and previous families at Athelney Primary School.
We are a small group of parents and carers that have come together with one aim and that is to help the children of Athelney get what they deserve.
Being part of our PTA Athelney Community, it is not only a reason to be part of an amazing group of parents and carers but also a good reason to improve the school community for our lovely and enthusiastic children. As a PTA we are the connection between the family members and our school. To encourage close links between the school, parents/carers and the wider community. Ultimately our aim is to make the school and the children’s experience happy, safe and community driven.
We welcome your ideas and opinions which will help our community grow and would gratefully appreciate anyone who is able to help us in any way (no matter how small) with our events and activities. We are not asking for too big of a commitment. From as little as helping toast bagels, to helping us organise events, anything is welcome. Even the smallest roles matter like an hour of wrapping Xmas gifts (winter gifts) for children to give their parents or helping out at a breakfast morning clean up or set up.
Do you have a spare hour? One hour to show our young people that helping others is an achievement and something we can do. Fundraising efforts could be used for new areas in the school for children to explore, different playground equipment for children to learn new sports and much, much more.
Our doors are always open, have a chat, get to know fellow parents and enjoy some adult time, learn something new and make future school events fun and memorable.
Athelney Family Breakfast
Family is the foundation of our lives, shaping who we are and how we view the world. Whether it’s the family we’re born into or the one we create, these relationships form the basis of our experiences, memories, and values.
At Athelney Primary School, we see our Family Breakfast as a ‘family unit’ which we created to ensure that all children receive the nourishment they need to begin the school day.
Family Breakfast has grown considerably from since it first started; it evolved from a school parent seeing a need and wanting to volunteer their free time to provide breakfast to all pupils here at the school. This parent started it with the help of a teacher called Ms Thompson who has since left the school. The parent would come into school in the morning and start toasting bread; some with just butter, some with jam, and then start making up jugs of juice to wash it down with. On occasions fruit and yogurt pots would also be provided which the students immensely enjoyed. The parent would walk around the school playground in all sorts of weather pushing a trolley around and offering students something to eat and drink, even if they had already eaten at home.
Since 2024, Family Breakfast has continued to grow and we love to welcome families into the school to share breakfast, on a half-termly basis!

Celebrating Athelney’s Summer BBQ 2024
We would like to say a massive thank you to all who supported, attended and volunteered at Athelney’s Summer BBQ last year. Parents, children and staff members all worked very hard to organise such a great and successful event. A huge number of people attended and enjoyed some time together, and this showed just what a close community we have all built.
Over the last 5 years the PTA has helped to raise over £15,000 to fund playground equipment, such as the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and more!!
We would like to thank the local community for helping to support the school in donating some amazing prizes for our half yearly raffles. We couldn't have raised this money without your support and generosity, and our wonderful children are reaping these benefits.
Please consider volunteering your free time to help keep these events going!
