  • Black History Month

Wed 02 Oct 2024 Mrs Dummer

    Dear Parents & Carers,

October allows us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate Black History Month. At The King Alfred Federation we have worked hard to develop our curriculum to be representative of all of our communities, cultures and histories so the focus of Black history month is a way for us to refresh how we look at the wider world and open everyone's eyes to stories and experiences that we may otherwise miss.

This year’s theme, Reclaiming Narratives, is about taking control of the way stories are told.

For too long, many stories of Black history have been overlooked or misrepresented. This theme encourages us to tell these stories accurately and celebrate the achievements that have shaped our society, reminding us that history belongs to everyone.

We will be celebrating Black History Month at Athelney and Elfrida through assemblies and learning opportunities in class.

If you would like any more information about this year’s theme, please follow the link below:

We are always looking for new ideas and opportunities for our curriculum to be refined and enhanced. Please get in touch if you have any ideas of your own or from other schools that we can develop at our schools.

    Let’s get inspired together!

    Kind regards

    Mrs Dummer

  • Attendance and Attainment the link

    Thu 12 Jan 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As a leadership team, last week we sat down with your child’s class teacher to discuss the amazing progress your children have made in class so far this year and how we can ensure through the rest of the year this continues.

Every day we strive in school to ensure your child’s needs are met and they achieve the success they deserve. Talking to the teachers and analysing the information we collect, one of the biggest barriers to a child’s success at Athelney is their attendance at school, and it makes sense, if they are not here they will not be learning in line with their peers.

Below is our first term data which has been split by attendance. As you can see in the graphs below the difference in attainment is quite stark.
