Week 1

In RE this , we will be  looking at the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindus celebrate Diwali.

A long time ago, Prince Rama and his wife Sita were sent away to live in the forest. An evil king named Ravana took Sita away, but Rama, with the help from the monkey god Hanuman, rescued her after a brave battle. When Rama and Sita returned home, people lit oil lamps

(diyas) to show them the way and to celebrate thier return.

  • The story of Rama and Sita is the main reason Hindus celebrate Diwali
  • Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness - just like when Rama defeated Ravana and light returned to the kingdom.
  • Hindus light diyas (oil lamps), to decorate their homes, share sweets and enjoy fireworks  to remember the joy of Rama and Sita's return.
