Success for today; prepared for tomorrow. Nothing is beyond our reach.

Black History Month

Dear Parents & Carers,

October allows us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate Black History Month. At The King Alfred Federation we have worked hard to develop our curriculum to be representative of all of our communities, cultures and histories so the focus of Black history month is a way for us to refresh how we look at the wider world and open everyone's eyes to stories and experiences that we may otherwise miss.

This year’s theme, Reclaiming Narratives, is about taking control of the way stories are told.

For too long, many stories of Black history have been overlooked or misrepresented. This theme encourages us to tell these stories accurately and celebrate the achievements that have shaped our society, reminding us that history belongs to everyone.

We will be celebrating Black History Month at Athelney and Elfrida through assemblies and learning opportunities in class.

If you would like any more information about this year’s theme, please follow the link below:

We are always looking for new ideas and opportunities for our curriculum to be refined and enhanced. Please get in touch if you have any ideas of your own or from other schools that we can develop at our schools.

Let’s get inspired together!

Kind regards

Mrs Dummer
